What would happen if I became the Principal for a day? What if, one day, our dear Principal William Baldwin’s office keys were handed to me? What would I do with 24 hours of almost unlimited power?
Read on, my fellow students, and allow me to take you through the greatest possible college day ever…
My reign will begin with no lessons starting at 8:30am. I’m certain most of us get the bus or the train, which could be utterly exhausting to travel so long back and forth. And so, school should begin at 10am. In addition to this, research, you, me and basically everyone on a Monday believe that sleep is an important duty. Especially on a rainy morning. How else would we concentrate on our lessons? It’s obviously a brilliant idea for school to start later. Some teenagers' brains switch on later which allow them to perform better in classes.
Next, I would love to go to the two cafes of our beloved college and change a few things…
One, we need an extra indoor room dedicated to quiet people. The ones that would not appreciate listening to three hundred hours of gossip.
And two, as much as the food in college is delicious, I think there should be discount days: specific days of the year where all food sold across BHASVIC is 15% off. Wait, no. 20% off.
This is leadership.
Then, I would create an important announcement: a suggestion box is going to become available. It’s going to be a little white box placed in many different places, filled with ideas discussed rather than mysteriously disappearing into the back of our minds. It could be anything, from what could be added to our school menu to creating a sheltered area for the benches. Honestly, it’s going to be limitless. (At least, I hope so.)
Soon, my 24 hours would be over. Yet of course, we must address the biggest issue in the room: the 17:20 lessons. By this point, most of us have already mentally left the building, so why should our bodies still be there? I truly believe that there is something psychologically devastating seeing 17:19 on that clock, surely teachers also deserve the escape from the classroom before they decide to change their career choices. Therefore, the powerful principal aka me would gladly abolish all 17:20 lessons. You can thank me later.
Eventually, my 24 hours would come to an end. My grand reforms slowly disappear as normality consumes the college.
Did I change everything?
No.
Did I make questionable choices?
Way too many.
But if I were Principal for a day, I’d just stick to the college we have now. Perhaps with a bit of change for a less tiring day.
Although, if anyone wants to stop the 17:20 lessons or 8:30 am, I won’t be complaining!
